ABOUT Us

  • Power house and king of craft beer since 1891.

A Sydney & Suburban Hydraulic Power Company built Pumphouse back in 1891. It was the first large multi-purpose hydraulic pumping station in New South Wales.

After the decision was made by the Heritage Council to recognise the rich history of the building, The Pumphouse Tavern was born. It was operated by the Tank Stream Brewing Company and proceeds to be one of Sydney's first microbreweries.

The Thunderbolt Strong Ale was born right here. A murky beer with a hint of spice perfectly fits the character of a gentleman's bushranger - the beer's inspiration.

Captain Thunderbolt is known Sydney’s history known as the “gentleman bushranger”. He is famed, alongside his partner Mary-Ann Bugg for planning and escaping Cockatoo Island. Together they succeeded until a showdown with authorities in Uralla.

  • Home of bespoke wines and Thunderbolt Strong Ale.

Located at the heart of Darling Square, Pumphouse Bar & Restaurant now serves and produces a range of different craft and premium brews, and sells bespoke wines to add a little theatre to the Pumphouse experience.

The sophisticated new space boasts an industrial design with high end finishes, from the statement lamp shades over the bar which feature the work of Australian artist Lance Corlett, to the stunning timber bar and intimate wine room, available for private dining and tastings.

The wine room will feature a broad selection of wines from various international and local winemakers, with QR codes visible to be scanned to review tasting notes and select your perfect drop.

Pumphouse is proudly and authentically Sydney. With a menu inspired by seasonal produce, there is always something new and fresh to satisfy all members of the group.
